# Margin Requirement in MT5

Hello Deriv Community,
Note that for the margin calculator, the following formula is applied:
`(volume) x (contract size) x (asset price) / effective leverage`
To find out the effective leverage value of each symbol/index, you must calculate: `account leverage / initial margin rate.` You can refer to the “Max effective leverage” column in our **Trading specifications** table, where you can also find more information: [Online trading with Deriv | Simple. Flexible. Reliable.](https://deriv.com/trading-specification/)
The following values can also be found in the specifications on your MT5 account, by right-clicking on a symbol and then selecting “Specification”: volume, contract size, and initial margin rate.
