"The MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester enables you to evaluate multi-currency trading algorithms that can analyze multiple currencies and recognize the relationship between them. You can also see the testing process in real time: any trades executed by the tested Expert Advisor can be shown on a chart
Additionally, the MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester provides several testing modes to achieve the optimal balance between speed and accuracy. The most precise testing result can be obtained in the “Every tick based on real ticks” mode, in which the tested robot uses actual tick data from exchanges and liquidity providers. The “Open prices only” mode offers a fast but rough estimate.
Set Up Your Test
When MT5 restarts, go to: View > Strategy Tester. You can also press Ctrl-R on your keyboard to open Strategy Tester.
It will appear in a window at the bottom of your screen.
Start Your First Test
Once you’ve setup the test, click the green Start button. If you’ve checked the “visual mode…” box, the Strategy Tester Visualization window will open and show you the backtesting trades on the chart.
Use the slider to increase or decrease the speed of the test. This will allow you to watch your trades and see if your EA is working as you expected.
If you do not select the “visual mode” option, the test will run without displaying the trades on a chart. To monitor the progress of your backtest, it is best to switch to the “Graph” tab. This will allow you to see the trades as they are being simulated.
Note: This will only be applicable on the desktop app
