Invalid crypto address

Hi Deriv Community Members, :bulb:

“The provided address is invalid” or “Invalid crypto address” error usually occurs when you’re trying to make a cryptocurrency transaction, and the address you’ve entered for the recipient is not correctly formatted or doesn’t correspond to a valid address for that specific cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrency addresses are specific and must adhere to the correct format for each cryptocurrency.

Here are a few common reasons for the error:

Typographical Errors: Cryptocurrency addresses are case-sensitive and can be quite long. Even a small typo or mistake in copying the address can result in an invalid address error.

Incorrect Cryptocurrency Address Format: Each cryptocurrency has a specific address format. If you’re trying to send a different cryptocurrency to an address meant for another, it will result in an invalid address error.

To avoid this error, ensure that you double-check the address you’re entering, use the correct address format for the specific cryptocurrency, and verify the recipient’s information.

But even within one cryptocurrency, there could be different address formats and some wallets choose to support only old or only new formats. For example, the beginning character in a Bitcoin address depends on the type of address (P2PKH, P2SH, or Bech32). If you take the address from the Deriv deposit page and your crypto wallet shows you the error “invalid address”, it means that they do not support the type of addresses that our crypto cashier supports.

*In this case, you can choose to use a different crypto wallet or alternative crypto coin.
